Christmas Stockings Cheer for Local Residents

Christmas Stockings!

To replace the popular Rotary Christmas Day Breakfast which again was cancelled as a result of Covid, Swanage & Purbeck Rotary members ‘stepped up’ to bring some cheer to residents in Purbeck who were spending Christmas Day on their own.

Some 34 Christmas Stockings, stuffed full of festive goodies, were personally delivered over the Christmas weekend.

We could only achieve this through those Rotary members who went above and beyond to help with the distribution of the stockings, and our grateful thanks also go to the following people and local organisations who made this possible :

The Barnett Family

Nicola Morgan

Chococo

Inner Wheel

Budgens

Corbens Estate Agents

WH Smith.

Thank you all for helping to make the season so much better for those recipients of the stockings.

Disaster Response from Swanage Rotarians

Our Rotarians getting down to work!

Swanage & Purbeck Rotary is proud of its fast response to disasters around the world when they happen.

So when the earthquake hit Haiti last week, it was “all systems go” to try and do something to help.

Thanks to Dorset Council granting us a Street Collection Licence in double-quick time, we were out in Station Road Swanage on 24th August collecting money for a ShelterBox to help those in Haiti who are in dire need.

The ShelterBox charity provides equipment that enables up to 10 people to have shelter and basic equipment to be able to survive the aftermath of a natural disaster until more permanent help is able to be provided. More details about the charity is available on their website.

Each ShelterBox is numbered so that they can be tracked wherever they go around the world and organisations like Rotary who raise funding for them can see exactly where the money that they have raised has gone.

We were also indebted (as always) to Corbens Estate Agents, who once again offered to take donations in envelopes on our behalf. Total funding raised from the day so far is almost £900, from both cash and card donations, which is a fantastic achievement and we are incredibly grateful to the generous Swanage residents and visitors to our town who gave so willingly.

Grateful thanks also go to Rotarian Maggie Hardy who co-ordinated the day and to our Rotarians and friends who turned out on the day to help collect.

Bringing Joy to Others at Christmas

Club members were delighted to welcome around 30 local residents to the United Reformed Church on Christmas morning for breakfast.

This annual event has been running for many years and is always a very happy occasion, with a full English breakfast being served, accompanied by the Buckle family playing Christmas carols and songs. President Linda Winter welcomed everyone and Town Mayor Mike Bonfield also said a few words of welcome to those present.

And despite a very busy night, Santa found time to make an appearance, handing out small gifts as people were leaving.

We extend our most grateful thanks to  Budgens, the Co-Op and Costcutters for proving the food and to our Business Partners and supporters for all their help in organising this event. More photographs can be found on Facebook.

Christmas Breakfast Brings Joy to the Big Day

Rotarian Maggie Hardy reports on a morning of fellowship and joy at a special time of year

Guests, Rotarians and Friends came together at the beautifully decorated United Reformed Church Hall on Christmas morning to enjoy fellowship, a delicious cooked breakfast and excellent music provided by the Buckle Family and Friends.

Mother Christmas visited during the morning
and distributed presents kindly donated by Chococo and Inner Wheel.

Supported, with grateful thanks, by Corbens Estate Agents over 200 invitations were sent out across the community and increased publicity raised the profile of the traditional breakfast, set up by the club over 50 years ago and which continues to bring together those alone at Christmas, by providing transport and companionship at this special time of year.

We were delighted to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr. Mike Bonfield and his wife Audrey to share the festivities and who also helped with the washing up!

Rotary is very grateful to the Co-op, Budgens and Costcutters for kindly donating provisions to support the breakfast, to the URC for providing the hall, and to all who helped, supported or were involved in this well received, successful morning event. We say a big “Thank you”.
